13.12.05 - National Series 3 & Comm Games Qualifier 1:
The Lysterfield National Series Race #3 on December 10th was my intro to the national scene for this season, with a 'unique' track, warm weather, tense atmosphere, and a large quality field. It was on from the gun, with everyone keen on getting into the singletrack early to avoid getting caught behind slower riders in the 99% singletrack course. With no series points I got to start at the back of the pack, so my work was cut out for me. I felt ok, but could only manage to move up a few spots early on. The rest of the race was a matter of passing as many riders as I could, which only became easier when others started to tire.
Shaun Lewis (Scott) and I ended up together for a while, picking off riders. But before we knew it we'd hit the top 5, where the riders were riding much faster. Then the race was over - Chris, Josh, and Sid took the top 3, as expected, with Dan McConnell riding a strong 4th. Chris dominated the power course as expected. The gravel surface ended up being ok as it cleared a bit, but more climbing and more technical descents are Mt Beauty will be nice. Time to get some climbing form and speed in the legs...
